For the 4610 and 4610SU, the manual distinguishes early and late headland pistons and explains why individual pistons cannot be exchanged between versions. This helps avoid mixing incompatible piston versions during engine repair.

The timing-gear layout identifies the crankshaft, camshaft, and injection-pump or distributor-drive timing marks. Service notes warn that turning the crankshaft and camshaft independently can damage pistons or the valve train.

Holley Carburetors and C.A.V. Diesel Injection
