Several details show why the factory repair procedure matters. Yamaha specifically warns against forcing the transmission case halves apart with chisels or screwdrivers because the case mating surfaces can be damaged. Primary-sheave work calls out the risk of damaging or deforming the oil-seal lips during repair. Front-wheel bearing service also warns against striking the center race or bearing balls, which can damage the bearing.
Technical Specification Highlights
The G2-A uses a 285 cc four-stroke OHV single-cylinder gasoline engine. Engine-oil capacity is 1.1 liters, and fuel-tank capacity is 24 liters. The service specifications give a 0.7–0.8 mm spark-plug gap and a starter-generator belt deflection of 8–12 mm under a 10 kg (22 lb) load.
Powertrain specifications are model-specific. The G2-A helical-gear differential uses a 13.65:1 forward and 15.25:1 reverse secondary reduction, with 800 cc of SAE 90 gear oil. G2-E cars equipped with the GE traction motor use an 11.969:1 helical reduction, while Hitachi-motor versions use 13.546:1; both specify 800 cc of SAE 90 gear oil. A later G9-E specification uses an 11.965:1 helical reduction with 300 cc of SAE 90 gear oil.
Later G9-E electrical material documents an FET (Field Effect Transistor) chopper motor controller and a 36-volt GE traction motor rated at 2.2 kW / 2.97 hp for 30 minutes, providing useful separation from earlier electric-control configurations.
